There are two aspects to the Schengen visa validity i.e the validity of the visa and the number of days of stay allowed.
People tend to get confused between these two dates and land up in a soup.
Eg: If you have a Schengen visa valid for 180 days, you must check the number of days stay allowed carefully. In most cases, the number of days allowed is as per the itinerary submitted during the visa application, which may be 7-10 days.
Another important aspect if you have a longer visa validity (eg 1-2 years of visa), the duration of stay gets rolled every 180 days.
