Koh Samui is an island of about 200 sq kms in the eastern coast of Thailand. It is known for beautiful beaches, waterfalls and view-points.

Mainstream tourists especially Indian tourists skip this island as reaching this island is expensive. Koh Samui has its own airport (code: USM) but is a privately operated airport by Bangkok Airways which almost has a monopoly, hence has expensive flight fares.
Cost
Flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui are usually in the range of 10-12,000 INR one-way per person (economy class). Bangkok Airways is a boutique airlines which has won several awards as a ‘Regional Airlines’. The service and food served was great.
Airport Experience
The airport (USM) is small but is an uniquely done. Passengers are transported in cute vehicles from the aircraft to the arrival hall. Luggage arrived on time .
Pro tip: Grab cabs are not allowed for pick-up at the airport terminal (only drop is allowed on Grab). We had booked our cab via booking.com, who did come to pick us up from the arrival hall.
Transport
Rental: Scooters (approx 200cc) are easily available for rent from 300 to 600 TBH per day, depending on the vehicle make.
Cabs: Local as well as app-based cabs are available on the island. They might feel expensive than other bigger cities in Thailand but thats works it works on islands.
Activities:
Apart from the popular full moon party in Koh Samui, it is largely an island to have a relaxing vacation but there are many options to spend your day via activities like Pig Island tour, cataraman boat tours, Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park tour, etc. Such trips cost around Rs 3000 to Rs 6000 per person.
If you wish to attend the full moon parties, please do check the dates before planning your trip. They also organise half-moon parties to cater to the party-oriented travellers.
